NSA Ajit Doval held a telephonic conversation with Iran's Rezaei on latest regional developments

National Security Adviser of India Ajit Doval spoke to Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Dr. Mohsen Rezaei on Monday, according to the Embassy of Iran in India.

The leaders discussed the latest regional and international developments and issues of mutual interest to the two countries.

"Dr. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a telephone conversation this evening with Shri Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser of the Republic of India, during which they exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments and issues of mutual interest to the two countries," the Embassy said.

The conversation comes soon after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hit a third supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering an onboard fire after failing to comply with maritime directives.

According to Press TV cited by ANI, the IRGC Navy confirmed that "the third violating supertanker was hit in the Strait of Hormuz this morning, sparking a fire on board".

The Iranian force stated that "the tanker had switched off its navigation system and ignored warnings from the IRGC Navy before attempting to leave the strait and disrupt order and security there, like the two previous vessels."

The incident marks the third vessel targeted in the key waterway within 48 hours.

Earlier on Sunday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal informed that two Indian nationals remain missing after the Nicaragua-flagged tanker MT Petro Dolphin, carrying 11 Indian seafarers, was subjected to a drone attack at Sohar Anchorage on October 11, while nine crew members have been rescued and are safe.

In a post on X, Sonowal said search-and-rescue operations were underway by the local Coast Guard and that Indian authorities were coordinating with the relevant agencies to support efforts to locate the missing seafarers.
