The United States said its forces intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles aimed at American troops stationed in Kuwait late Sunday night, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran despite ongoing ceasefire talks.

In a statement issued Monday, the US military said the missiles were successfully intercepted and no American personnel were injured in the attack, reported Reuters.

The attempted strike came shortly after the US launched attacks on Iranian radar and drone-control facilities inside Iran following Tehran’s downing of an American MQ-1 Predator drone over the weekend.
