The U.S. and China have agreed that the two countries should set up military-to-military channels to reduce conflict and deescalate any problems that arise in the future, U.S. Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth said on Saturday, after meeting with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun in Malaysia.

After President Donald Trump met with Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping in South Korea, "I had an equally positive meeting with my counterpart, China's Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun in Malaysia," Hegseth said in a post on X.

Hegseth said U.S. and Chinese officials would have more meetings about setting up the channels.
