NEW DELHI: The Indian Army conducted surgical strikes last night on terror launch pads across the Line of Control in a fitting response to Pakistan for the Uri attacks conducted by the country earlier this month.

In what has been reported as "the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades", lives of 18 Indian soldiers were lost fighting off militants. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and warned Pakistan that the sacrifice of India's 18 jawans will not go in vain. "We will leave no stone unturned to isolate Pakistan in the world," Modi said post Uri attacks.

Here at 10 things you must know about India's response to Uri.

1) The DGMO said India cannot allow terrorists to operate across the LoC, there has been a surge in infiltration.

2) Sources indicate Indian army Special Forces operations on terror launch pads lasted from 12:30 am to 4:30 am, location was 500 meters - 2 kms across Line of Control. Surgical strikes on Pakistani terror camps belonged to multiple terror groups, no Indian casualties have been reported.

3) Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in a tweet said surgical strikes were conducted when Pakistan did not mend ways after repeated diplomatic efforts to check terrorism originating from their soil.

5) Indian markets reacted to surgical strikes against Pakistan. Sensex crashed 555 points and Nifty fell about 170 points in intra-day trade post reports.

8) Army sources confirm to wire service ANI 5 terror launch pads have been destroyed by the Army across LOC, Indian Army special Forces were para-dropped.

9) Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf condemned the attack, said "our desire for peace should not be interpreted as our weakness."

10) According to reports, villages in Punjab which are 10 kilometres from the international border with Pakistan are being evacuated. Additional BSF troops move in.

Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt-Gen Ranveer Singh confirmed that the strikes were carried out on Wednesday night and caused heavy damage.
