GUWAHATI: The prime counter insurgency strategy making body for Assam, Unified Command, on Saturday reviewed the security situation in Assam.

The meeting, held in Tezpur and chaired by Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, was attended by Lt Gen Sarath Chand as well as senior officers from the army, para-military forces and the Assam government, including state DGP Khagen Sarma.

According to an official statement, the meeting reviewed the overall security situation in Assam.

“It took note of the militant activities in Assam with specific reference to Bodoland and Karbi Anglong, and resolved to thwart firmly, their activities and propaganda. The meeting was aimed at sending a stern message of the firm resolve and strong capability of all instruments of national power, when they work in a synergised manner.”

The Unified Command was formed in 1997 to deal with militancy in the state.
