Assam is on high alert following militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit (NDFB-S) killing 14 people in Kokrajhar in Bodoland in last week.

GUWAHATI: After lull of couple of months, suspected anti talk faction of ULFA militants on Friday open fired in Philobari in Tinsukia district in which two people was killed and seven others injured including three women.

Superintendent of police of the district, Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta told ET, “A group of persons came to a village and started indiscriminate firing. Injured were rushed to the hospital.”

A police official said that those attacked belonged to Hindi speaking community. Tinsukia district is a stronghold of anti talk ULFA militants and in past on several occasions the outfit has attacked the area.

In the run up to Independence Day celebration police has recovered IEDs and explosives from different places.
