Türkiye has reportedly developed a new conventional aircraft bomb, the GAZAP, weighing 970 kilograms, making it the country’s most powerful non-nuclear weapon to date.

According to a TRT Global report, the GAZAP bomb is engineered to disperse fragment explosions with greater effectiveness. Developed by the National Defense Ministry’s research and development (R&D) center, the bomb delivers 10.16 fragment explosions per meter (3.2 feet), a significant upgrade from the previous standard of one explosion every 3 meters (9.8 feet). Its blast effect grants it formidable destructive power, and it can be deployed from an F-16 fighter jet.

Alongside GAZAP, Türkiye also unveiled the NEB-2 Ghost, a new-generation bunker-buster bomb, at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul.

The NEB-2 Ghost, which also weighs 970 kg (2,000 pounds), was described as “the best bunker-buster in the field.” The bomb is specifically designed to penetrate reinforced concrete structures and can likewise be launched from an F-16.

According to the TRT Global report, the NEB-2 Ghost was tested on an island where it demonstrated impressive performance — penetrating 90 meters (295 feet) underground and causing landslides, gas leaks, and significant rock destruction within a 160-meter (524-foot) radius. Officials told TRT that the explosion was timed to detonate after 240 milliseconds, instead of the usual 25 milliseconds, significantly increasing its destructive impact.

Earlier this week, Türkiye also introduced its first hypersonic ballistic missile, the Tayfun Block 4, at the same defense expo. Developed by Roketsan, the missile is said to be highly maneuverable and capable of striking deep into enemy territory with high speed and precision.
