India's top military brass will extensively deliberate on external security challenges as well as geo-political power play in the region at a two-day conference beginning here tomorrow.

The Unified Commanders' Conference (UCC), an annual forum to take stock of the country's security preparedness, is expected to undertake a comprehensive review of counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, the situation along the border with China and developments in India's maritime neighbourhood, military officials said.

The conference will be attended by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force and other senior military commanders and officials of the Defence Ministry and tri-services organisations, they said.

"The annual conference provides a platform for discussions at the apex level on all 'Joint Issues' amongst the three services and Ministry of Defence. It enables stock taking of the previous year and planning the way ahead for the next year," the Defence Ministry said.

The ministry said the scope of this year's conference has been enhanced to enable it to facilitate joint stock taking of the previous year's performance of all services and departments of the ministry and jointly chart the course for the next year.

"A large number of tri services issues would be deliberated thoroughly to arrive at solutions to challenges faced and to evolve plans for the future," the ministry said.
