Top-level rejigged as insurgent groups unite to form new outfit in northeast
NEW DELHI: With NSCN (K) chairman SS Khaplang uniting four northeast insurgent groups to form a new outfit, NDFB (S), one of the militant outfits has undergone massive restructuring as IK Songbijit has been sidelined and B Saoraigara was appointed as the new president.

Saoraigara was earlier holding the charge of general secretary. It is learnt that Songbijit has now been given the role of an advisor and he will have no direct control on the cadres. Songbijit is also wanted by Indian agencies for his role in December 2014 massacre where more than 80 tribals were killed by the outfit. It was also for these reasons that Saoraigwra signed declaration for the formation of The United National Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (WESEA) instead of Songbijit.

However, security agencies suggest that the role of Songbijit within the organisation has not diminished. With Saoraigara and Songbijit both at the top, security forces fear that outfit’s plan are afoot to carry out fresh attacks in northeast. The restructing sources said also indicates zeal on the part of the outfit to carry out attacks against security forces. Sources also said that nearly 100 cadres of NDFB (S) have been trained at their camps in Myanmar to be launched in India soon.
