NEW DELHI: Terrorists are believed to have intruded into the Sunjuwan military station through an area with an incomplete wall and covered only with corrugated sheets, according to an Army insider. The incident highlighted that military camps in J&K remain vulnerable to terrorist strikes with no proper perimeter security.

Three terrorists have been killed. Until Monday evening, the Army said there was no fourth terrorist. Nevertheless, the operations will not be called off. The Army is sanitising a jungle, located south of the station for booby traps.

The terrorists first entered two houses in two blocks of the accommodation. The third block they entered had the residence of Subedar Madan Lal Choudhary, who was killed. They also entered the house of Subedar Ashraf Mir, killed him and injured his child. They didn’t fire at his wife. One or two of the terrorists then broke off from the group. Within a couple of minutes, the entire base was on alert. At 10 am, the first encounter took place between the Army and the terrorists. The first terrorist was killed then. At 2.30 pm, the second terrorist was killed.


In the evening, surveillance through searchlights and helicopters was carried out. At 7 am on Sunday, the third terrorist was killed. Five army personnel and a civilian were killed, while nine others, including six more army men, were injured in the strike.
