Sudarshan Chakra to play major role in asset protection: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: The ambitious plan to create a national defence shield under project Sudarshan Chakra will play a critical role in protecting national assets in the coming times, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday.

Addressing senior Air Force officers at the Air Force Commanders Conference, the minister said that the development of an indigenous jet engine has become a national mission, with the government fully committed to achieving the objective.

The minister said modern warfare is not just dependent on weapons but is a war of ideas, technology and adaptability, with advancements in cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellite-based surveillance, and space-enabled capabilities fundamentally changing the battlefield.


"Precision-guided weapons, real-time intelligence and data-driven decision-making are no longer optional. They have become the basic requirements for success in modern conflicts. Those nations which master the trinity of technology, strategic vision and adaptability will move towards global leadership," the minister said.

Speaking on Operation Sindoor, he said India demonstrated its capability for high impact, short duration missions and that air power has emerged as a decisive force in modern warfare.

"Air power gives any leadership the capability to deliver a clear strategic message to the adversary that every step will be taken to uphold national interests," he said while commending the performance of Indian air defence systems during the operation.
