A Guard of Honour with full military honours was given to the martyrs. Singh laid a wreath at Shaheed Smarak and paid rich tributes to those who sacrificed their lives to uphold the dignity, honour and pride of the nation, officials said here.
The Khem Karan sector in Tarn Taran district has been witness to innumerable stories of bravery and courage during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars.
A number of war memorials were constructed by various units of the army in the memory of martyrs but due to remote locations, proper care and maintenance of them was becoming increasingly difficult, said officials.
Thus, it was decided to relocate the memorials at Abdul Hamid Samadhi complex in Cheema village, they said, adding that eight new memorials were built at 'Shaheed Smarak'.
Lieutenant General JS Cheema, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps and Major General Vijay Pingale, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division also graced the occasion.
