Vijay Kumar, inspector general of police (Kashmir range), said using drones for attacks was a “new technological threat” and it would be dealt with technology.
“We convened a meeting in wake of this attack and have reviewed the situation. We have made deployments and other arrangements that cannot be discussed publicly,” said Kumar.
He informed that the General officer Commanding of 15 Corps, Lieutenant General DP Pandey, also held a separate meeting regarding the drone threat. “Security has been beefed up around all vital installations and along the Line of Control as well… We are enhancing the capabilities to deal with and neutralise any new threat,” said Kumar.
The police officer informed that they seized a drone flying around the Dal Lake and an FIR was registered in this case as well. The police had been keeping a tight vigil on civilians using drone cameras and uploading the footage on social media. “There are several sensitive installations around the Dal Lake and nearby areas. You cannot fly a drone without permission. A lot of people have bought drones and are not following legal procedure for its usage,” a senior police official said.
