Russia claims capture of another village in east Ukraine

Russia's army said Tuesday it had captured another tiny village in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, where its forces are grinding forward.

The defence ministry said its troops had "liberated" the settlement of Ivano-Dariivka, a tiny village that consisted of just a few streets and houses before Russia launched its military offensive.

The village is around 30 kilometres (18 miles) northeast of Bakhmut, the town Russian troops captured in 2023 after flattening with months of artillery fire.


Moscow's troops are pressing on slowly across Ukraine's east, as they seek to capitalise on an advantage in manpower and equipment.

But Kyiv says they are suffering huge numbers of casualties and it hopes the ongoing arrival of Western military aid to the frontlines will help them halt the Russian advance.
