New Delhi: CBI on Tuesday arrested a colonel posted with Army Ordnance Corps, Eastern Command, for allegedly manipulating tenders and approving substandard samples in exchange for bribes from a Kanpur-based defence supplier. The officer was arrested in connection with an alleged ₹50 lakh bribery case, people in the know said.

According to the FIR registered by CBI on Monday, Colonel Himanshu Bali was accused of indulging in corrupt practices to favour a Kanpur-based private individual and his firm in the award of tenders, approval of substandard samples and clearance of pending and inflated bills in return for bribes.

Bali was taken into custody in Kolkata and will be brought to Delhi for interrogation, people in the know said. It is alleged that Bali is closely associated with Kanpur-based Eastern Global and its proprietors, Akshat Agrawal and his father Mayank Agrawal.
