QatarEnergy said none of the crew members on board were injured in the incident, and there was no environmental impact reported.
The incident comes a day after Iran attacked a fully loaded crude oil tanker at Dubai port’s anchorage, setting it ablaze and damaging its hull, according to Kuwait Petroleum Corp. Authorities said firefighting teams were deployed to contain the blaze, while all 24 crew members were reported safe.
The attacks are part of a broader wave of strikes on merchant shipping in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz since the US–Israel strikes on Iran February 2026. The strategic waterway handles roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas trade, raising concerns over global energy supplies.
Oil prices have already reacted to the escalating tensions, with US crude futures rising nearly 3% following the latest tanker attack. On the day, Brent crude price dropped 5%, as per AP.

Shipping routes across the region have come under repeated fire in recent weeks, with multiple vessels struck by missiles, drones or explosive boats off the coasts of the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia. While some attacks have caused fires and structural damage, most have reported no casualties.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz could be targeted, following US and Israeli strikes on the country in late February. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the latest attack near Qatar.
