Plug infiltration, use AI for surveillance: Home Minister Amit Shah To BSF

With focus on plugging gaps to stop influx of foreign militants along the Jammu region, the union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday tasked Border Security Force (BSF) "to ensure zero infiltration from the international borders and use advanced technologies for surveillance and border guarding."

Shah was chairing a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir attended by the central armed police forces (CAPF) and home ministry officials. He also directed CRPF to continue to maintain synergy with Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police. The home minister reviewed the winter action plan of CRPF and asked them to ensure that there are no gaps in area domination. He asked the security forces to focus on the Jammu region and dominate the heights.

On the intelligence apparatus working in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah asked them to increase coverage and penetration to generate quality intelligence. He reiterated the importance of technology in intelligence generation. The home minister added that monitoring of terror-financing, tightening grip over narco-terror cases and dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir are priorities of the government.


The government has maintained that there has been a 70% decline in terrorist incidents. 2056 citizens were killed during 2004-13 while 390 were killed in the last ten years. In the past 47 months, that is since August 9, 2019, there were just 32 calls for strike and incidents of stone-pelting decreased by 90%, as per an official data.
