Pakistan drone, carrying magnetic bombs, grenades, shot down in J-K's Kathua: Police
"It has a payload attached with it and it is being screened by the bomb disposal squad," a spokesperson said.
The officials realised that the drone was carrying a payload. Experts and the bomb disposal squad were immediately called in to inspect the recovery. Additional Director General of police in Jammu, Mukesh Singh, said seven magnetic bombs and seven grenades compatible with Under Barrel Grenade Launchers were attached to the drone.
The J&K police in its recent security review meetings have reiterated that drones posed the latest security threat and the forces would be equipped to tackle this challenge as well. The Jammu region has reported several incidents of drone infiltration from across the border.
A senior police official said that this consignment came at a time when the administration was preparing for the Amarnath Yatra and was expecting the arrival of six to eight lakh pilgrims, "which reflects that there are plans to disrupt the yatra". "Some people across the border are trying hard to disrupt normalcy in Jammu. They have already tried to create and regroup some sleeper cells to execute attacks and ensure disruption in Jammu," a senior police official told ET.
