The remarks was made by a senior Pakistan foreign ministry official who dismissed Indian army chief Gen Dalbir Singh's comments that India is prepared for short wars, The Express Tribune reported.

Accusing Pakistan of using "new methods" for creating unrest in Jammu and Kashmir and extending the arc of violence to other areas, Gen Singh yesterday said India is prepared for "swift and short" wars in the future.

The Pakistani official dismissed Gen Singh's warning as "mere rhetoric", saying there was no possibility of a "limited war" between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, the paper said.

Pakistan has yet to make a formal reaction to Gen Singh's comments.
