SRINAGAR:The armies of India and Pakistan exchanged fire at least four times in the past three days, with the latest firing reported on Wednesday morning from Degwar sector of Poonch in Jammu division.

The Indian Army expected fresh violations of ceasefire agreement between the two countries after the resump-tion of bilateral talks on Indus Waters Treaty in Pakistan last month, army officials said.

“We expected something to happen after IWT talks. After March 23, we expected they will do something,” a senior army official posted in Jammu & Kashmir told ET on condition of anonymity.

After the Uri attack in September last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cautioned Pakistan that India could unilaterally revisit the treaty, saying, “Blood and water cannot flow together.”

Earlier, on Tuesday, shelling and firing were reported at posts and border villages in Bhimber Gali sector of Rajouri district. As per the data released by the defence ministry, at least 36 ceasefire violations were reported from the Line of Control (30) and international border (six). Last year, as per the government figures, 449 ceasefire violations were reported from LoC and international border in J&K.

On Monday, army officials said, Pakistani troopers resorted to firing and mortar shelling in Balakote sector of Rajouri district, and on the same day firing from across the LoC was reported from Poonch as well. On April 1, in Poonch, a junior commissioned officer, Naib Subedar S Sanayaima Som, was killed in an improvised explosive device blast.
