JALANDHAR: A Pakistani intruder was shot dead while two others fled after Border Security Force troops opened fired at them as they were trying to infiltrate through Ferozepur Sector here, a BSF official said today.

BSF said its personnel noticed suspicious movement at the international border on Harbhajan border outpost in Ferozepur sector last night.

The personnel on duty saw a group of intruders trying to sneak in, they challenged the infiltrators who opened fire, BSF Punjab Frontier IG Anil Paliwal today said.

BSF returned fire, and one intruder was shot dead while two others others manged to escape, Paliwal said.

The BSF had a tip-off about smuggling bid.

Besides the body, the BSF also found a mobile phone and Pakistani SIM card during search, he said.

Paliwal said the BSF has seized 57 kg heroin besides guns and cartridges this year.

Terming the killing of five hardcore militants in a single operation as a "prize catch", the police said the successful operation would be a "severe setback" to the militants and their designs to carry out subversive activities, especially in south Kashmir.
