According to an AP report, the Pakistani airstrike on Iran killed 4 children and 3 women, as told to an Iranian state television by a local official. Iran's attack on Pakistani soil on Tuesday resulted in strikes in Sistan and Balochistan province, following the death of two children in the southwestern Baluchistan province.
There was no immediate acknowledgment of the strikes in Iran. The strikes conducted by Iran were focused on Baloch separatist factions, namely the Balochistan Liberation Front and the Balochistan Liberation Army, intensifying hostilities.
"This morning Pakistan undertook a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran," a foreign ministry statement said, adding that a "number of terrorists were killed".
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry also stated that the attacks were in pursuit of Pakistan's own security and national interest. The statement went to state, "Iran is a brotherly country and the people of Pakistan have great respect and affection for the Iranian people. We have always emphasized dialogue and cooperation in confronting common challenges including the menace of terrorism and will continue to endevaour to find joint solutions."
Adding to the complexity, Pakistan takes a diplomatic stance by blocking Iran's envoy from returning to Islamabad post-strike. Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the breach of sovereignty, emphasizing existing communication channels between the two nations.
