Efforts underway to secure safe release of civilians: Minister
Guwahati: The Manipur government has stated that more than 38 people from the Kuki and Naga communities were being held captive in different parts of the state.

The apex body of Nagas in Manipur - the United Naga Council (UNC) - had alleged that 20 civilians were being held hostage in Leilon Veiphei area of Senapati district. UNC, citing local sources, claimed the civilians were allegedly abducted by suspected armed miscreants from Leilon Veiphei.

Manipur home minister K Govindas Konthoujam said efforts were underway to secure the safe release of the civilians and restore normalcy amid escalating tension following the recent violence in the state. He said the government is in discussions with civil society groups and political leaders.

"We have informed the Union Ministry of Home Affairs through the Intelligence Bureau and will take care of all those being held captive," Govindas said.

Three people belonging to the Kuki community were killed and several others injured after unidentified militants ambushed two vehicles in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Wednesday. The home minister said this case will be handed over to NIA or any other central agency for investigation.
