While India and Russia have a common position and close coordination in this regard, there is growing realisation in Chinese establishment of threat from Pakistanbased terrorism, people familiar with the developments told ET.
India used the opportunity presented by the meeting, attended by China’s state councillor Yang Jiechi, to drive home the threat from China’s allweather ally Pakistan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier raised the issue when he met President Xi Jinping in Hangzhou on the sidelines of G20 Summit. India wants China to lift its veto to enable the UN to ban Maulana Masood Azhar, head of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed.
India hopes BRICS will adopt a resolution on global terrorism at the summit in Goa on October 15-16.
