During the sessions of the meet, Doval spoke on modern security challenges including ICT related issues and terrorism and the need to address them through joint efforts within the BRICS framework, ET has learnt.
Cross-border terror besides the need to control terror finance and prevent misuse of online platforms for spread of terror and radical ideology was among the issues that was discussed, ET has further learnt.
The BRICS NSA meet also gave final shape to the Summit be held in Kazan between October 22-24. Doval is also understood to have discussed the Ukraine conflict and need for dialogue with Russia’s participation in any peace talks with his various counterparts and Russian interlocutors.
It has been learnt that the NSA held a slew of meetings with various Russian interlocutors to follow up on the PM’s visit and annual Summit outcomes across sectors including matters of critical strategic importance.
Doval and the Chinese FM and Politburo member who also represents China as NSA were seen approaching each other in the presence of the NSA from Egypt.
Participating in the 13th BRICS NSA meeting in Johannesburg in 2023, Doval had said that terrorism remains one of the key threats to national peace and security.
He had stressed that terror organizations in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region continue to operate with impunity. Doval had suggested that listing terrorists and their proxies under the United Nations counter-terrorism sanctions regime is an area on which BRICS can work together.
Doval had called it important that the decision-making of the UN Security Council sanctions committee is free from politicization and double standards.
