Nibe showcases capabilities of 120mm vehicle-mounted mortar 'Garudastra' to Indian Army
Nibe Limited has successfully demonstrated the capabilities of its indigenous Garudastra long-range 120mm vehicle-mounted mortar system to the Indian Army under a No Cost-No Commitment (NC-NC) evaluation. The demonstration highlighted the system's rapid shoot-and-scoot capability, high rate of fire, Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) feature, and precision strike performance using GPS- and laser-guided munitions, showcasing its potential to enhance the Army's long-range artillery capabilities.

The demonstration was conducted at the Infantry School Mhow.

As per the company's press release, the demonstration commenced with a tactical Shoot & Scoot mission.

What happened during the demonstration?

During the demonstration, Garudastra moved into a temporary firing position and was combat-ready in under 30 seconds. It fired two rounds in less than 15 seconds before quickly vacating the position within another 15 seconds to simulate evasion of counter-battery fire. The system then relocated to its primary firing position and re-engaged the target with the same level of accuracy.

The mortar system also demonstrated its high rate of fire, with a two-member crew launching 12 rounds in just 60 seconds while maintaining precision throughout the sequence.

Garudastra further showcased its Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) capability by firing three rounds along different trajectories and flight times, enabling all three to strike the target at the same moment and maximize battlefield impact.

The highlight of the demonstration was the successful firing of a GPS- and laser-guided precision munition with a range of up to 10 km. Fired from long distance, the round scored a direct hit on a 3 m × 3 m target, underscoring the system's exceptional accuracy and precision-strike capability.
