NIA searches Jamaat-e-Islami-linked locations in Kashmir

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at three locations in Jammu and Kashmir in a terror funding case linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami.

New Delhi: NIA on Monday conducted searches at three locations in J&K in a terror funding case linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami.

The searches, carried out in the Srinagar and Shopian districts of Kashmir, led to the recovery of several incriminating financial documents and electronic gadgets suspected to be linked to the activities of JeI and its various trusts and associations.

NIA has been probing the separatist and secessionist activities of JeI, which has been declared an unlawful association under UAPA.

Investigations have so far revealed that JeI was actively involved in collecting terror funds and fuelling terrorism in the Valley and other parts of India. The organisation was allegedly collecting funds in the name of donations for charitable and welfare activities such as healthcare and education.

These funds were then allegedly diverted towards violent and secessionist activities and channelled to proscribed groups.
