GUWAHATI: A hardcore NDFB(S) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kokrajhar district of Assam today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the police and troops of 7th Jat Regiment launched an operation at Parbatjhora in Kajigaon area when they were fired upon by a group of NDFB(S) militants, the police spokesman said.

In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed while others managed to escape, police said.

The militant has been identified as B Laoder who was suspected to have been sent to Kokrajhar by the NDFB(S) leadership to revive the banned outfit's Dhubri platoon.

A 7.65 mm pistol, two magazines, eight rounds of live ammunition, six fired cases and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant, the spokesman said.
