Candidates meeting set criteria will undergo written examinations, followed by physical and medical tests before the final selections are made. The navy is looking to induct close to 3,000 sailors under the scheme this year.
Senior officials have said that the navy is seeking to induct at least 20% women under the entry scheme and they would be posted on all ships and establishments in the near future. Women sailors inducted under the scheme will head for several branches, including logistics, communication, naval air mechanic and ordnance. The navy already has women officers in service who are also engaged in combat roles. Currently, 30 women officers are sailing onboard frontline warships.
