Navy chief launches document on joint training of 3 services
NEW DELHI: Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba released the Joint Training Doctrine Indian Armed Forces-2017 here today, aimed at ensuring integration amongst the three defence services and optimum utilisation of resources.

This is the first time that such a keystone document has been created. It has been prepared involving the army, navy and Indian Air Force and has evolved from the Joint Doctrine Indian Armed Forces-2017. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, IAF Chief Air Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) Lt Gen Satish Dua were also present on the occasion.

“The aim of the training doctrine is to promote ‘synergy’ and ‘integration’ amongst the three Services and other stakeholders leading to an enhanced efficiency and optimum utilisation of resources,” says a statement issued by the Defence Ministry.

The doctrine dwells the approach to joint training, fundamentals, objectives, joint structures, planning, organisation amongst other aspects in existence and in use in the services. The concept includes ‘joint training’ as a leverage for promoting ‘diplomacy’ and ‘civil – military interface’ issues.

“The recently concluded INDRA – 2017 (between India and Russian forces) and three humanitarian and disaster relief exercises held every year are some shining examples towards this end,” says the statement.

This document will also serve as a knowledge base from which directives and strategies will be issued by the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee, Admiral Lanba, to the Headquarter Integrated Defence Staff and service headquarters to consolidate proven concepts, structures and capabilities.

The doctrine will also serve a ‘referral document’ for the policy makers, armed forces personnel and academia.
