Naga delegation urges government to reconsider ceasefire agreement with NSCN(K)
NEW DELHI: At a time when the government is planning to ban the NSCN(K), a six-member Naga Hoho delegation led by its president P Chuba Ozukum, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urging him to reconsider the ceasefire with NSCN(K).

The Prime Minister, during his meeting with the group — which was also attended by NSA Ajit Doval — is learnt to have assured them that a solution to the Naga-Indo conflict will be found soon. “We have urged the government to reconsider the ceasefire with NSCN(K) and has also appealed to SS Khaplang to follow the will of the Naga people,” Ozukum told ET.

NSCN(K) is the leading outfit behind the attack on the 6 Dogra regiment on June 4 in which 18 army jawans were killed. The outfit is likely to be banned under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act with the Cabinet likely to take up the proposal on Monday. NSCN(K) in a statement had justified its action against the soldiers, and had also sent a fax message to the home ministry in May saying that they would not have walked out of the ceasefire agreement if it were not for the media reports in March this year, with local dailies purportedly reporting about the home ministry’s decision to not extend the ceasefire with NSCN(K). Home ministry sources indicate that NSCN(K) was never in favour of extending the ceasefire.
