New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has deputed minister of state for external affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh to represent India at the Gaza peace summit being held in Egypt on Monday.

Modi had received an official invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to attend the summit, to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, which will be co-chaired by US President Donald Trump. While the PM will not be attending the summit, he has deputed Singh as his special envoy to represent India at the summit.

Meanwhile, India is hoping to host the foreign minister of Egypt Badr Abdelatty later this week and the outcome of the Gaza peace summit is expected to figure high on the agenda of his visit.

The invitation to the PM came as the US ambassador designate Sergio Gor met him and held other key meetings in Delhi on Saturday.

Trump and El-Sisi will host UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and leaders from more than 20 countries, including UK PM Keir Starmer, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Spanish PM Pedro Snchez and French President Emmanuel Macron.
