NEW DELHI: The Military Secretary and the Director General of Military Operations of the Indian Army retired today upon their superannuation.

Defence sources said Military Secretary Lt Gen Rajiv Bhalla, who was responsible for all promotions, transfers and postings in the Army, retired today.

Similarly DGMO Lt Gen P R Kumar, who headed the crucial office responsible for all Army operations, retired today.

Successors to both Bhalla as well as Kumar are yet to be appointed, the sources said.

The retirements have come in at a time when the Army was hit by a series of social media messages which alleged that a senior officer was involved in graft.

The Defence Ministry has already red-flagged the proposed promotion of a Major General due to the allegations.
