J&K DGP’s warning as terrorist kill labourer in Pulwama, says 'Won’t spare the culprits…'
Srinagar: Militants shot dead a non-local labourer on Monday at Nowpora village in Pulwama.

The deceased Mukesh Kumar, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The attack took place a day after a J&K police inspector was critically injured at Eidgah ground in Srinagar.

"Terrorists fired upon one labourer identified as Mukesh Kumar in the orchard area of Tumchi Nowpora in Pulwama, who later on succumbed to his injuries. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow," J&K police informed.

J&K police officials informed that preliminary investigation revealed that the labourer was engaged at B-7 Brick Klin at Tumchi Nowpora and had gone to market for purchasing culinary items. "While on his way back, he was targeted by the terrorists, injuring him critically," read the police statement.

Director General of J&K Police Dilbagh Singh said that things can't be taken lightly and have to be cautious as the threat of such attacks remains. Singh is retiring on October 31 this year and being replaced by RR Swain who will formally assume the office of the J&K Police Chief.

"Such shameful acts of attacking innocent labourers won't be pardoned by God, people and by police. We will soon find out the culprits and justice will prevail," said Singh.

Meanwhile, one infiltrator was killed in a joint operation of army and J&K Police on Monday during an alleged infiltration attempt in the Keran sector of Kupwara in northern Kashmir.

"Recently, five terrorists were killed in Machil Sector while one terrorist was killed in today's encounter in Kupwara district where operation is on," added Singh. He said that a fresh ceasefire along the Line of Control and border since February 2021 has brought a lot of respite for the border residents and hopefully it continues to stay.
