Under the 'National Policy and Action Plan 2015', there has been a progressive decline in the number of districts affected by LWE. In the past six years, the number of LWE-affected districts has reduced from 126 to 90 in April 2018, and further to 70 in July 2021 and then to 38 in April 2024, Rai said. On the violence perpetrated by LWE, Rai noted that the same has been reduced by 81% in 2024 to 374 in comparison to 1,936 in 2010.
Similarly, casualties involving civilians and security forces have reduced by 85% during the same period from 1,005 in 2010 to 150 in 2024.
Laying out a five-year progress report after 2019-20, Rai said under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme, Rs 1,925.83 crore has been released to all LWE-affected states during the past five years from 2019-20 till date.
As many as 702 Fortified Police Stations, including 147 for Chhattisgarh, have been sanctioned for states.
