AHMEDABAD: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday urged Indian companies to think like a corporate while eyeing defence deals in the wake of India's massive defence overhaul.

“Defence is a strange business. If you start car manufacturing, you may sell the car to several consumers. However, in this case, the consumer is only one government of India and department of defence. (Having) one consumer has its own problems. If you keep the consumer happy -give him a product that syncs with the (goal of enhancing) capabilities and modernisation of the armed forces -you can definitely have the order,“ he told potential investors at the Vibrant Gujarat 2017 Summit on Thursday .

Talking on aerospace and defence amid the Made In India call, he said: “After spending a lot of money if you don't get a nod of the consumer, all the efforts would be wasted. This is a strange type of situation -where (one has to take a call on) which is first -whether you invest first or the orders are first."
