Major disaster averted: Seven IEDs with 28.5kg explosives neutralised in Manipur

Guwahati: Major success has been achieved in a joint operation launched by Army along with Manipur Police, that has a potential threat to life and property, was averted when a large quantity of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) was recovered in the hill region of Manipur near Bongjang and Itham villages in Imphal East district. The operation resulted in recovery of seven IEDs, weighing approximately 28.5kg.

An army spokesperson said, “Acting on specific information, columns of the Indian Army and Manipur Police acted swiftly and launched an extensive search operation incorporating Army Explosives Detection Dogs. The operation resulted in recovery of seven IEDs, weighing approximately 28.5kg. The IEDs were diffused by experts from Army Engineers. The recovery has prevented a major disaster and saved precious lives”.

Manipur witnessed hi tech attacks by drone bombs and rocket propelled bombs. Following the attack by drone bombs and rocket propelled bombs, the security forces have deployed an anti-drone system to repel the rogue drones.


Manipur witnessed several violent incidents since September 1, leaving at least 12 people, including two women, elderly persons and a retired soldier, dead and over 20 others injured.

Of the 12 deaths, six were killed in Jiribam, inhabited by people from different communities.

Manipur has witnessed repeated incidents of arms loot since May 3 last year. At least 226people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.

The riots began after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
