JAMMU: Lieutenant General Narinder Pal Singh Hira today took over as the Chief of Staff of Headquarter Northern Command.

Commissioned into Sikh Light Infantry in 1978, Lt Gen Hira has a reach experience in Western and Eastern Theatre and also in counter insurgency both in J&K and North East, Defence Spokesman Col S D Goswami said.

The General officer successfully commanded the Infantry Battalion in Assam, Brigade in Uri, Division in Akhnoor and Corps in Jalandhar.

He has held many instructional and staff appointments in schools of Instruction and Headquarters, Spokesman said adding that the General Officer has done all prestigious professional courses.

The General is conferred with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Sena Medal (SM).

The General is married to Mrs Kiran Hira, a post graduate in Zoology, he said.
