SRINAGAR: Lt General SK Patyal today took over as the General Officer Commanding of the Army's 14 Corps, the only corp which guards the Line of Actual Control with China as well as the Line of Control with Pakistan.

Lt Gen Patyal, who was previously with Border Roads Organisation, took charge of the 14 Corps today at Leh in Ladakh region, defence sources said.

Lt Gen Patyal, who joined the army in 1979, was promoted to his present rank in September last year.

He is now heading one of the most strategic Corps of the Indian Army, which was raised in 1999 following the Kargil War with Pakistan-backed intruders.
