Three militants were killed as Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Kupwara district in third such incident in a fortnight.

SRINAGAR: Three militants were killed as army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Kupwara district in third such incident in a fortnight.

"Alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the Line of Control in Tootmaar Gali area of Kupwara district during the wee hours.

"As soon as the infiltrators crossed to this side of the LoC, they were challenged," an army official said, adding three militants were killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

This is the third infiltration bid foiled by the army in two weeks.

Three soldiers and a militant were killed in a failed infiltration bid on May 25 in Tangdhar sector while four militants and a civilian were killed in the same area earlier this week.

"Based on specific inputs, a joint operation was carried out by Rashtriya Rifles (RR) battalion and the police in Kakora forest in Rajouri district last evening," Defence spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told PTI.

After prolonged search of the area an old hideout was discovered, leading to recovery of cache consisting of one AK-47 rifle, 212 AK rounds, eight AK magazines, 223 pika rounds, one GPS, three binoculars, four radio sets, one Thuraya set and other war-like stores, he said.

The recoveries from the hideout in Reasi district yielded two AK-56 rifles along with two magazines, 82 rounds of 7.62 mm assault rifle, a radio set and one hand grenade, he said.

The recoveries from Sopore area includes 33 IEDs, 44 grenades three UBGL, 4.5 kg gunpowder, eight detonators and seven safety fuses, the official said.

Four AK rifles, 15 magazines, 756 AK rounds, three pistols and 19 pistol rounds were also recovered from the hideout, he added.
