A cordon and search operation is underway for the second day on Thursday to track two to three foreign infiltrators believed to be hiding in a forest area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation follows an encounter between infiltrators and the armed forces in the dense forest area of Chatroo belt on Wednesday in which an army man sustained injuries. "No exchange of fire was reported since Wednesday afternoon, but the operation continues," said a senior official. The armed forces have deployed drones, sniffer dogs and additional reinforcements to track the infiltrators.

Kishtwar has seen six encounters over the past seven months as forces continue operations against foreign infiltrators hiding in these hills.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police of J&K, Nalin Prabhat, chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar to assess the security situation in the Valley and to strategise measures to strengthen the security and Intelligence grid.
