Infiltration bid foiled in J&K's Kupwara, 5 militants killed

The Army and police killed five Lashkar-e-Taiba infiltrators along the Line of Control in Machil sector of Kupwara in northern Kashmir, Jammu & Kashmir police has said.The police informed that based on a specific information an encounter started in Machhal sector in which five infiltrators were killed. The police claim that the militants are attempting to infiltrate in numbers ahead of the winters and heavy snowfall that makes movement in these mountains impossible for at least five months.

Additional Director General of police Vijay Kumar informed that the militants were associated with LeT and the search operation is in progress. "Five terrorists of LeT were killed and their identity is being ascertained," said Kumar.

The Director General of J&K police Dilbag Singh said that this area is an infamous infiltration route and there are at least 16 launch pads of militants across the LoC. "They want to push as many infiltrators as possible. But with our joint efforts we foil the infiltration bids like we did today," said Singh.
