An Iranian official said five people were killed after US-Israeli strikes on Saturday targeted a petrochemical hub in the southwest, according to ISNA news agency.

"Five people were martyred following the American-Zionist enemy attack on some companies located in the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone," ISNA said, citing deputy governor of Khuzestan province Valiollah Hayati.

Also cited by the official IRNA news agency, he said 170 people were wounded in the attack but had been treated and did not require hospitalisation.

Earlier, when announcing the strikes, Hayati said the attack hit the premises of three companies in the area, according to Iranian media.
