Intake under Agnipath scheme will rise to 1.25 lakh in near future: Lt Gen Anil Puri

The armed forces addressed the press detailing the recruitment plan under the Agnipath scheme today.

Addressing a press conference, Lt Gen Anil Puri, additional secretary, Department of Military Affairs, said that the number of recruits under Agniveer will go up to 1.25 lakh in the near future.

He added that the intake will increase to 50,00-60,000 in the next 4-5 years.

Lt Gen Puri said that the scheme was long pending and has been rolled out to bring down the average age of soldiers.

He detailed the benefits of joining the armed forces under the Agnipath scheme. He said that the Agniveers will be the strength of the nation once their tenure ends after four years and a number of initiatives have been taken for transition to a second career.

He said that India Inc has also come out in full support of the move.
