Infiltration bid foiled, two killed along LoC in Uri sector

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police have informed on Friday that an infiltration bid was foiled and two infiltrators were killed along the Line of Control in Uri sector of northern Kashmir.

Inspector General of Police in Kashmir VK Birdi told reporters that J&K Rifles of the army carried out the operation in which the two infiltrators were killed.

"JAK Rifles have neutralised two infiltrators. One body has been retrieved as of now. Search operation is going on and we are awaiting more details," said Birdi. He said there is "a seasonal periodicity" of such infiltration attempts and this attempt has to be seen in the same context.


Due to the heavy snowfall along the LoC in Kashmir, infiltration from across the border is halted in the winter months. However, as soon as the snow starts to melt in April, officials claim that infiltrators make attempts to cross the border.

The army also informed that the incident took place in Sabura Nala in Uri sector, where troops foiled the infiltration attempt. "Two terrorists have been eliminated. Two AK rifles, four hand grenades and other war-like stores have been recovered," army officials informed.

The army and BSF officials have maintained that despite the fresh ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistani armies along the LoC from February 2021, several infiltration attempts have been made across the LoC.
