The first Indian woman fighter pilot to fly the new Rafale jets, Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, is now soaring high in the skies over France as part of the ongoing multi-nation exercise.

IAF Contingent comprises
The exercise is being conducted from April 17 to May 5, 2023, with the IAF Contingent comprising four Rafale, two C-17, two ll-78 aircraft and 165 air warriors. This is the first overseas exercise for the IAF's Rafale aircraft, according to the statement released by Defence Ministry.

Background
Shivangi, who hails from Varanasi, earlier flew MiG-21 Bisons before she converted to the 4.5-generation Rafales. After studying in the Banaras Hindu University, she was among the second batch of women fighter pilots who were commissioned in 2017. Shivangi is part of the IAF's Golden Arrows squadron based out of Ambala in Punjab.
