Indian Navy unveils new design for Admirals' Epaulettes
The Indian Navy today unveiled the new design for Admirals' Epaulettes. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcement during Navy Day 2023 celebrations at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. As per the Indian Navy, this new design reflects a departure from the previous design and signifies a notable shift in the Navy's outlook.

The newly revealed design draws inspiration from the Naval Ensign, incorporating elements influenced by the Rajmudra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Rajmudra, or the Royal Seal, was an authentic stamp employed by Shivaji Maharaj in his correspondences and ordinances. It is said that Shivaji Maharaj received the Rajmudra from his father Shahajiraje Bhosale, making it a symbol of historical significance.

The Admirals' Epaulettes feature distinct components, including the Golden Navy Button, the Octagon, the Sword, and the Telescope. The Golden Navy Button underscores the Navy's commitment to discarding colonial ideologies. Meanwhile, the Octagon symbolizes a comprehensive, forward-looking vision encompassing all cardinal directions. The Sword embodies the Navy's raison d'etre, emphasizing its role as the forefront of national power, dedicated to triumphing in wars, overcoming adversaries, and tackling challenges. The Telescope serves as a symbol of long-term vision, foresight, and vigilance in an ever-evolving world.

According to the official statement, this design serves as a genuine reflection of India's rich maritime heritage, paying homage to historical symbols that hold cultural significance. During the Navy Day celebrations in Sindhudurg, Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction, stating, "Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the nation is progressing, shedding the mentality of dependence. I am pleased that the epaulettes worn by our Naval officers will now carry a glimpse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's heritage."

This move not only represents a symbolic connection between the Naval flag and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's legacy but also reinforces the broader narrative of India's maritime prowess. The unveiling of the new design aligns with the government's commitment to ushering in a new era, rooted in historical and cultural symbolism, as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
