Indian defence firm Sigma deepens ties with UK's Rolls-Royce in Rs 1,600 crore deal

Defence and aerospace firm Sigma Advanced Systems has secured an additional long-term agreement worth nearly £125 million (about Rs 1,600 crore) with UK-based Rolls-Royce through its recently acquired UK subsidiary, Leicester-based Bromford Precision Solutions, further expanding the Indian company’s partnership with the aerospace major.

The agreement builds on a previously secured long-term Rolls-Royce contract worth about £300 million (around Rs 3,800 crore), taking the combined value of the two agreements to nearly £425 million. The earlier deal was a seven-year agreement covering the manufacture and supply of high-precision aerospace components.

Under the latest agreement, Bromford will manufacture aero-engine rings, casings, lock plates and other critical engine structures across Sigma’s manufacturing facilities in India and the UK.

Sigma said the arrangement will create a dual-source manufacturing solution for Rolls-Royce and expand the range of components it can supply to the aerospace major.

The deal follows Sigma’s acquisition of 100% of UK-based Bromford Precision Solutions for about £11.89 million (around Rs 153 crore) in July. Bromford, based in Leicestershire, manufactures high-precision aero-engine components, including rings, compressor casings, ducts, brackets and lock plates, and holds approvals from Rolls-Royce and Siemens.

Sigma said the acquisition had strengthened its position in the Rolls-Royce supply chain by adding complementary manufacturing capabilities and specialist engineering expertise.

“This agreement is another strong marker of how far India's precision engineering and defence-aerospace manufacturing base has come,” Sigma CEO Sunil Kalidindi said.

He said global aerospace original equipment manufacturers were increasingly looking to India not only for cost advantages but also for engineering capabilities, quality and scale.

The company said Bromford’s addition would also strengthen its UK manufacturing base and secure the long-term future of the Leicestershire facility, supporting skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs.

Sigma operates aerospace and defence businesses in India and the UK, including Nasmyth and Bromford. The group manufactures precision components and systems for global aerospace and defence customers, with Bromford adding capabilities in complex aero-engine structures.

The latest agreement strengthens Sigma’s position in Rolls-Royce’s UK supply chain while giving the Indian company greater exposure to long-term aerospace programmes and higher-value manufacturing work.
