CHENNAI: Coast Guard ship Rajkamal and six interceptor boats will be re-based in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from here as part of steps towards enhancing security of new Coast Guard stations.

ICGS Rajkamal, six interceptor boats C-407, C-412, C-414, C-416, C-417 and C-428, the Commanding officers and crew, were given a traditional farewell today ahead of relocation to Andaman and Nicobar Islands as part of Coast Guard headquarters re-basing plans.

"The re-basing plan is aimed towards enhancing the Coastal Security of the new Coast Guard stations for effective optimisation of coast guard assets towards safeguarding the maritime border of the nation", an official release said.

Newly commissioned ICGS Arnvesh has already joined the Eastern fleet as part of the plans, it said.

Coast Guard Advance Offshore Patrol Vessel 'Sagar' would escort the six interceptor boats to Port of Blair for a "safe passage", the release said.
