Indian Army transforms decommissioned bridge into 'Border Brew Cafe' in Arunachal Pradesh
In a remarkable feat of "heritage infrastructure with modern utility," the Indian Army has inaugurated the Border Brew Cafe in Zemithang, Arunachal Pradesh.Constructed atop a decommissioned Bailey Bridge over the Nyamjang Chu river, this unique establishment was completed in a record time of just 31 days under Operation Sadbhavna. The project, located near the Indo-Tibet border, represents a strategic shift toward sustainable border tourism and community empowerment for the local Monpa tribe. Managed entirely by local Monpa women, the cafe serves as a "bridge of opportunity," generating livelihoods while providing a scenic sanctuary for travelers exploring India’s remote frontier. This collaborative initiative between the Army’s Gajraj Corps and the local community showcases how security and socio-economic development can be woven into a single, seamless narrative.
